East Canberra General Practice has a special interest in the treatment of children and seven of our doctors have post graduate qualification s in child health. We bulk bill all children under 16.
Children present to us with a wide range of problems and most of the time they are not particularly unwell. However children with a more serious illness often compensate very well initially, so there is a risk that their illness will be overlooked or underestimated.
If you have concerns that your child may be seriously ill, you can talk to our nurse who will either arrange for an urgent appointment with one of our doctors or organise another safe plan for your child.
Our doctors and nurses are prepared to undertake initial emergency management of a seriously ill child, and they have the equipment and supplies available to carry out that management effectively.
Our doctors monitor children's health and development and treat the respiratory, digestive, skin and general symptoms which children commonly experience. They also treat non-serious accidents, such as cuts that need stitching, minor bangs to the head, plastering of some fractures. Our doctors can also talk about your personal concerns and stresses, make referrals to other service providers and support agencies and liaise with hospital staff to help manage your child's care after being in hospital.
We also provide childhood immunisations. Our nurses and doctors work together to make this as quick and stress free as possible. We also provide written reminders when the next vaccinations are due.
